Age: 4 years old
Meet 4 ½ year old Zeus.
He is a gentle and friendly boy to adults and children alike. He welcomes visitors to our home with gentle tail wags, no barking nor jumping.
Zeus walks well on the lead and seldom reacts to other dogs. However, he does not care for small dogs that came up to him, especially the loud, yapping ones.
He is a good boy no barking, lunging and pulling on the lead just a little grumble. We would simply lead him away and all is well again for the rest of the walk.
We walk Zeus has three walks a day–a ten-minute early morning walk before breakfast, a longer 20-minute afternoon walk, and a short walk before his and our bedtime. This routine seems to work well, and Zeus sleeps well through the night.
Zeus has been trained not to jump onto our bed and furniture. A gentle but firm “No” a few times did the trick. He knows where his day bed (in the living room) and night bed (in our bedroom) are and settle well onto them each day.
He has a few toys that he likes but is not possessive when taken from him. Being the only dog in our home, he has not shown any possessiveness of his food. He is a neat eater, with very little spillage outside his bowl.
Zeus’ personality is coming through. He is playful and affectionate. He comes up for his hugs often, especially when he thinks it would score him a walk.
We are working on leaving him on his own for a longer period as he has exhibited signs of separation anxiety. By letting him follow us around the house while we carry on our chores and not making him the centre of our attention, he seems to relax in his own space and is less fixated with us as well. Hopefully, he’ll learn that it’s okay not to see us all the time.
Thank you Duranee for the great update on Zeus.
