We missed having a dog so much. We were looking into rescuing one. After some research, we decided on rescuing a greyhound due to their placid personality. We called GAWA who were very helpful and informative about greyhounds.
GAWA invited us to an adoption event to meet this big boy whom they thought would be a perfect match for us.
It was truly love at first sight when he entered Petstock Rockingham. He locked his big eyes with mine, came towards me and in a few minutes he was leaning against me as if hugging me. Immediately I knew we had to take him home.
He settled in to pet life so quickly. We named him Hermes which he learned in two days. He was great on lead. He slept through the night. He never had any accidents.
Our 38 kg big boy opened the floodgates. He made us fall in love with this gorgeous breed. He inspired me to do more for greyhounds. I started volunteering for GAWA at market events to help other greyhounds find their furever homes. We even started an Instagram for our dogs to spread the joy, share their adventures and promote greyhounds as gorgeous pets. @hermes.darcy.xavier
Our big baby boy is so special. He is so easy to live with, so docile and loving. He is a true gentle giant. He is a great PR dog for GAWA, representing greyhounds in events whenever we can. He loves giving cuddles to people he meets, with his tail wagging.
Our little rocket man does the craziest zoomies giving me a headspin. He has the funniest twirks. He loves his squeaky toys which he gathers in his bed. He loves car rides, walkies, pawties, people and dogs. His funniest moment was when Pink Panther music was playing and he started rooing for the first time. And he never stopped ever since.
Hermes is now 7 years old, we have had him for 3.5 years. He is enjoying his rescued life with his greyhound brother Xavier and sister Darcy.
