Hope AKA Little Ms Hope, Hopey-skin and Pickle.
Where do we begin? It seems like yesterday that Ellen arranged for us to meet Hope and foster carer, Aaron, at Victoria Park Markets. It was there we met this slightly reserved, little girl – and she is little – a pocket greyhound! We went for a walk around the park away from the crowd where she was much happier, taking us everywhere. It was then we decided she was ‘the one’.
Upon bringing her home, she claimed the couch and our bed pretty much immediately, seeming to say, ‘yep, I’m home’. Though it took a little while for her full personality to reveal itself, the roaching and zoomies started pretty much straight away. Over a few months, she grew into a cheeky, squeaker-loving monster. Then, when she’s ready to play, she’ll run past you with an item of someone’s clothing, deftly throwing it in the air and catching it, taunting us.
Her facial and ‘ear expressions’ or the tangle of legs on the couch or bed always have us in stitches, and she’s always up for snuggle next to you in the evening.
She’s (mostly) learnt that morning walks need to be routine, so we can get to work, but in the evening she can be quite insistent about which way we should go and we inevitably give in, engaging in sometimes 50 minute sniffaris while only travelling about 2.5km!
Hope likes sardines, I mean really, really likes sardines! If it’s not sardines for breakfast, it’d better be scrambled egg and ‘toasht’.
Her ability to sleep is legendary – on the days we’re both out, she gets on the bed about 8am and doesn’t move until she hears the garage door, even then, sometimes not until we’re in the house. If she’s not sleeping, she’ll happily follow us around the house and one of her favourite things is helping to fold the washing, well she thinks she’s helping…!
This little girl is an absolute joy to have as part of our family, loving, cheeky, willful,
quirky and funny. We couldn’t ask for more and our sincere thanks go to Ellen, Aaron and the Greyhound Adoptions WA team for letting her adopt us.
