Success Story: Patches and Maddy

A couple of years ago, we were invited to dinner at our friend, Sam’s first floor apartment. We got there and were greeted at the door by Sam and a huge black greyhound. Our first reaction was “are you mad, why would you want a big dog like that in a small upstairs apartment?”. I have to say it took no time at all to fall madly in love with Sam’s greyhound, Peking.

Move forward a while and there was a Pets at the Park event at the park near our home with Greyhound Adoptions WA in attendance. I just wanted to take all the foster greyhounds home and found myself putting my name on the cat/friendly wait list. The wait seemed to last forever! I then I got a call from Greyhound Adoptions WA to say they were cat testing Patches, and if he passed, we would have the option of adopting him. Needless to say, we were very excited!

Bec dropped Patches off to us on the Friday afternoon and it was love at first sight. He was a shy, timid boy who was scared of everything. He has blossomed into a big cuddle pot with quite a stubborn streak, who likes to lay on the couch with his head in my lap watching TV.

Fast forward and Sam adopted her second greyhound, a big boy named Fox. This of course led to us being back on the cat-friendly wait list! This time we adopted a beautiful little girl named Maddy. She’s a boisterous goofball who loves to play rough and run full tilt around the corner, and launch herself at whoever is sitting on the couch. Maddy also loves to sleep at our feet in our bed, while Patches likes to come in for a snuggle at around 5am.

Adopting these two beautiful dogs is among the best things we have ever done and we would do it again in a heartbeat!

❤️ A huge thank you to Sonya for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
