We had a Border Collie and Retriever for 13 years. When they passed away within 6 months of each other, our whole family were heartbroken.
When the second dog died, my wife and I made a decision to have no more dogs and we were pretty adamant about it.
This was until 9 months later, when our daughter fostered Bambi and within days we knew we just had to adopt her.
Bambi came to us straight from a racing kennel via the vets. When she arrived she was 5kg underweight, had kennel coat, was starving and very quiet. All she wanted to do was eat and cuddle. She’s just short of turning 3, and only ran in 6 races, with a win in her 1st race and no places after that. Maybe she thought I’ve won a race and that’ll do!
3 months later and we have a different dog! She’s a bit of a clown at times, eats her food at a reasonable pace, loves a walk and follows me everywhere.
We honestly didn’t think we needed another dog but we’re so grateful to our daughter and GAWA for bringing Bambi into our lives.
A huge thank you to Trevor for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
