“I had always wanted a second dog that would pair nicely with our 4-year-old Mabel, a Jack Russell with LOTS of energy. After quite a bit of research, it looked like a greyhound might be good option as they would have enough energy (and speed) to run around with Mabel but were also relaxed enough that it would calm her down a bit.
I’d been following Greyhound Adoptions WA online for a while and had seen the need for more foster carers. After several chats with my husband, we decided that fostering could be a good option for us.
Then Rose arrived… A bit worse for wear, and missing a toe due to having it removed after a training injury, but she quickly warmed up to us and wanted lots of pats and cuddles.
From the moment she arrived, we had said ‘we’re not adopting her, she is a foster’. But it took quite a while for her foot to heal and we had more time with her than we thought we would. We fell in love with her more and more as her silly personality came out, and we would often debate about whether can we risk missing out on having a dog like Rose. And ultimately the answer was ‘No’.
We adopted her just before Christmas 2023 and she has filled our life with more fun, love and laughter. Going for a walk is definitely her favourite, we can’t touch any of the walking supplies without her getting so excited that she jumps around and spins.
A huge thank you to Kirsten for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
