Success Story: Xena

Xena came into our home as an emergency foster after her previous owner was unable to look after her.

Xena needed extensive dental work which included 13 teeth being removed and also surgery to remove a few fatty lumps. At 12 years old it was risky, but the only way she could live a pain-free healthy life.

Greyhound Adoptions WA paid for all of Xena’s vet bills and aftercare, and as her foster parents, we supplied the warm bed, cuddles and occasional chicken nuggets during recovery.

After recovery and now free from dental pain, Xena started to come out of her shell and show us her cheeky, playful side. She started to wag her little tail, nuzzle into us on the couch and prance around the house like she owned it. On more than one occasion she has been mistaken for a puppy at the park as she bounces around, jumping over logs and getting into mischief.😅

We secretly knew from day 1 that we were never going to let Xena leave, but we had to make sure she was the right fit for our family as we already had a hound that could be selective with his doggie friends.

To our surprise, our boy Max accepted Xena and we signed her adoption papers a few months later.

It can be a bit daunting adopting a senior hound because there is always that not so nice thought of how much time you might have to spend with them.

Xena has changed our opinion on that because since she’s come into our lives, she has taught us to appreciate what we have in the moment. Nothing in life is guaranteed so we just enjoy each and every day we get to spend with her, including her recent 13th birthday and soon to be Gotcha Day coming up in March.

Greyhound Adoptions WA do a fantastic job with taking care of greyhounds, despite their age or health status and I can’t thank them enough for bringing Xena into our lives. I think everyone should consider adopting a senior hound as they will definitely take you by surprise and still have so much love left to give ❤️

❤️ A huge thank you to Tiahn for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
