Getting a dog was not the plan. I had already fostered six greyhounds and having just finished studying, I thought I’d had my greyhound fix. I planned on being a real (time-poor) adult and focus on a new career. I went to the farmers market for a weekly veggie shop and ‘happened’ to stop at the GAWA stall to let them know I couldn’t foster anymore. However, if they came across a dog down the track that might be a good fit for me, I’d be open to adopting (once I’d figured out what the new chapter in my life would look like, of course!).
Well, that’s not what happened. The wonderful adoption coordinators pointed at Kenna and said she was the dog for me. I had a slight panic since adopting at the time was not the plan, but it only took ten minutes with Kenna to know she was a rare find. Fast forward a week, and there was a new four-legged resident in our house.
Kenna has been a star since the moment she walked through the door. She was confident from the start, but watching her personality grow over the last six months has been incredible. She brings so many smiles to anyone who meets her and is a favourite in the neighbourhood. She is always up for an adventure, and will let you know that she’s not impressed if she is not included in anything. Mastering the ‘puppy-dog eyes’ and being a very polite young lady, means she’s a regular at the beach, coffee shops and the occasional wine bar.
With the smiles and company she brings, life without Kenna is not one I care to imagine. I can’t thank the people at GAWA enough for the match they made with us
A huge thank you to Kenna’s family for sharing their “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
