Success Story: Belle

After adopting Soda and Poppy, we wanted to have a break from fostering. This lasted all of a few months until we saw Greyhound Adoptions WA’s desperate call-out for foster carers. On the drive home from work, I begged my husband to open our home to a foster. The very next day, Belle was dropped to our home.

As soon as she jumped out of the car, she leaped and nuzzled her head deep into my chest and just stayed there for a few minutes. From the very beginning, she was a very emotional girl.

It took some adjusting for Belle to get used to Soda and Poppy, they needed to be separated from her for about a month before she felt comfortable enough to share the space with them. After lots of slow introductions and bonding walks, Belle quickly became a part of our family.

My birthday was fast-approaching and my husband was asking what I wanted for my birthday. I jokingly kept suggesting “adopting Belle”, but we both knew there was a lot of seriousness in those jokes! I got my birthday wish, and Belle has been a part of our family for 2.5 years now. She is our shadow, always laying on top of us demanding cuddles or leaning on us demanding pats.

Belle makes us laugh every day with her crocodile air snaps when she wants to play, her dramatic side eye and judgemental looks, tornado zoomies, and toe-tapping dances. She has completed our family, but also is the reason I am not allowed to foster anymore – because if we did, we would probably have have a fourth greyhound..!

Fostering and adopting with Greyhound Adoptions WA has been the best decision we have ever made, and we will always continue to support them and promote the greyhound breed.

A huge thank you to Em for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
