Success Story: Genie

“Genie came into our life 6 months ago today. Here’s an update on how she is going. She still: * Loves to dig * Creates huge furrows in the garden as she zooms along the track she’s made in our yard * Takes all her soft toys outside to get wet and dirty. Many are found buried in her digging area. * Prefers her own bed to cuddles on the lounge * Seeks 2 long walks each day * Waits to be lifted into the car She’s made friends (human and dog) around the neighbourhood who she enjoys meeting on…Read moreSuccess Story: Genie

Success Story: Akali and Curly

“Akali (right) and Curly (left) were adopted in late 2022, three weeks apart. Although they didn’t know each other before we adopted them, they quickly became the best of friends. As they say, opposites attract! The year 2023 began with the devastating news that my father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. After a difficult and brief battle, he passed away peacefully in July. In his absence, I had to adjust to a new reality and learn to cope with a rollercoaster of emotions. It was during these dark times that Akali’s and Curly’s true purpose became clear. Taking care…Read moreSuccess Story: Akali and Curly

Success Story: Rose

“I had always wanted a second dog that would pair nicely with our 4-year-old Mabel, a Jack Russell with LOTS of energy. After quite a bit of research, it looked like a greyhound might be good option as they would have enough energy (and speed) to run around with Mabel but were also relaxed enough that it would calm her down a bit. I’d been following Greyhound Adoptions WA online for a while and had seen the need for more foster carers. After several chats with my husband, we decided that fostering could be a good option for us. Then…Read moreSuccess Story: Rose

Success Story: Baxter

We brought our soulmate and best boy Baxter home on Halloween in 2016, completely unaware that he would become the centre of our universe. He has been the perfect companion for over 7 years and brought so much joy to our lives. Bax is incredibly chilled, goofy, loving, sassy, and has the most kissable snoot- He has it all! Adopting Bax was the best decision we ever made, we are so grateful to GAWA for everything they do for these amazing dogs.  A huge thank you to Kate for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.

Success Story: Pax

Pax was our first foster and first foster fail. We picked Pax up from Shenton Park Dog Refuge when they had asked if GAWA had a foster home for a greyhound that wasn’t coping in the kennels. To our surprise he was a greyhound X and had previously been rehomed a couple of times south of Perth. Pax has been a character ever since he stepped paw in our door. I think he knew this would be his forever home when he first arrived it was just us that needed to catch up on that fact. It’s taken him some…Read moreSuccess Story: Pax

Success Story: April

We decided to foster last year and were quickly sent the beautiful April. We already had a greyhound and wanted to do something to help these beautiful souls. April was a bit of an older girl coming in at 6-years-old and already having had 2 litters. Once she settled in with us, we were quick to notice her teeth were in horrible shape. After consulting with vets and Greyhound Adoptions WA, the decision was made to remove every single one of her teeth as they were beyond saving. This went over three procedures over a period of a few months.…Read moreSuccess Story: April

Success Story: Ronny

We were first time foster parents and SO nervous as I saw Ronny and his little white tipped tail hop out of the GAWA volunteer’s car. He was skinny, had fleas and was wide eyed scared. But we had so much support from the GAWA family. Over the weeks we got to know his sweet and gentle personality. My daughter formed a bond with him immediately! It didn’t take long for a family to adopt him but the universe had other plans. He came back to me after the family had a change of heart. We could never let him…Read moreSuccess Story: Ronny

Success story: Smurf

We fostered Smurf a few months before Christmas 2021. I instantly fell in love with Smurf’s adorable quirks and constantly pestered my partner to pleeeeeeease let us adopt her. All my pestering paid off because we foster failed and adopted our Smurfy girl Christmas 2021. She is our resident couch potato and roaching princess. Smurf’s sweet cartoon eyes and frosty brows could let her get away with Murder. She has completed our little family and is the best jealous little sister to her brother Archie.  A huge thank you to Jaicelyn for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.

Success Story: Archie

My partner, Keegan and I adopted Archie in 2020. We had just relocated to Perth and were looking to adopt a dog which would suit our lifestyle. We both agreed we wanted a relatively low maintenance breed that would be happy chilling out most of the time. After a friend mentioned how beautiful greyhounds were, we decided to reach out to GAWA and the rest is history. Archie was such a shy boy when we first met him but after a few weeks or so, started to show his personality. He is definitely not afraid to let us know it’s…Read moreSuccess Story: Archie

Success Story: Bambi

We had a Border Collie and Retriever for 13 years. When they passed away within 6 months of each other, our whole family were heartbroken. When the second dog died, my wife and I made a decision to have no more dogs and we were pretty adamant about it.This was until 9 months later, when our daughter fostered Bambi and within days we knew we just had to adopt her. Bambi came to us straight from a racing kennel via the vets. When she arrived she was 5kg underweight, had kennel coat, was starving and very quiet. All she wanted…Read moreSuccess Story: Bambi
