Success Story: Bonnie

Bonnie (Little Miss Bonnie Boo) celebrating 7 greyt years with this foster fail. I still recall her jumping into my car, head out the window and off to her forever home. Having only just out of racing, she had a lot to learn about living in a home, however her brother, Big Jay and I soon taught her everything important for her new life. Beds, couches and food! Bonnie will be celebrating her 11th birthday soon and what a greyt journey it’s been. We’ve met the most amazing people and greyhounds because of adopting Bonnie, and of course we’ll always…Read moreSuccess Story: Bonnie

Success Story: Tango

We have had Tango (previously Leo) for a year. I thought I would try fostering but I fell in love within 3 days of him arriving into my home. Tango is such a gentleman, he is also loyal and is either sleeping or following me around the house. His favourite time of the day is his walk! We let Tango decide to like us when he was ready to be adopted after his 5 yrs of racing and it paid off. He knew we were kind and trusted us quickly. He’s a delight and such an important part of our…Read moreSuccess Story: Tango

Success Story: Pirate Paddy

Pirate Paddy was a foster fail who came to me from Darwin. He had an obviously very hard life coming from the racing industry, he came to me he had a eye perforation which had been left with no veterinary treatment – he literally had a hole where the eye once would have been. Also along with his eye injury he had a terrible stomach infection. I was very concerned whether he could actually overcome all of his health issues. At that time I promised Pirate Paddy that if he overcome his injuries, I would love him forever and give…Read moreSuccess Story: Pirate Paddy

Success Story: Coco, Jerry and Theo

Almost 3 years ago, Coco and Jerry came into my life as first-time greyhound foster babies. Coco and Jerry are a loveable, gentle, affectionate and mesmerising pair. It was a no brainer to adopt them. Soon after Theo, came along. He was only supposed to be an emergency weekend foster, however, his next foster carer fell through. Theo was anxious in new situations and he had settled into a routine. He has irresistible, soulful eyes which pierced your heart when he stared at you. It seemed unfair to uproot him when he had already been through enough. So he stayed.…Read moreSuccess Story: Coco, Jerry and Theo

Success Story: Freckles

Marcello & I moved into our first home together in 2018, the house was very empty & boring without a dog. Marcello wasn’t keen on the idea of introducing a dog into the family as he’s never had dogs in his life. I thought it would be a great idea to take Marcello to one of GAWA’s weekend adoption events to ask questions. Marcello didn’t even get past the questions before falling in love with Freckles at first meet. I suggested we take things slowly as he may not be a great fit for our lifestyle. A week later, Freckles…Read moreSuccess Story: Freckles

Success Story: Scout

We adopted Scout over a year ago and she’s become such an important part of our lives. When we first brought her home, we were a little nervous about how she would adapt to her new life. She settled in wonderfully and we fell in love with her affectionate and playful personality immediately. Scouts very food motivated, so that’s been helpful in helping her learn new tricks. She’s mastered “speak,” “lay down,” “go to bed,” and “touch” (though the execution of said tricks might depend on how stubborn she is on the day!) She’s got her quirks; our favourite being…Read moreSuccess Story: Scout

Success Story: Jet

I adopted our boy Jet (previously Tommo) back in September 2018. He had originally been placed with a family in Safety Bay, but their cats couldn’t cope so he came to me unexpectedly. I was expecting I would have to wait quite some time for a cat-friendly greyhound. He never raced but did train. He is such a silly billy and often comes out with the GSOD (greyhound scream of death). He settled in very easily except for getting me up at 4am in the beginning. Now I have to get him up! His first night with us he slept…Read moreSuccess Story: Jet

Success Story: Ivy

I was sent 7 month old Iris’s profile by a friend in June 2022 and she joined our family that weekend. She became known as ‘Ivy’ quite quickly as my brain kept calling her ‘Ibis’ which would result in her being nicknamed ‘the bin chicken’. Ivy’s eye was injured as a baby which left her half blind but that doesn’t stop her, she spends her days playing with her big sister Cass the Border Collie and following her cats around the house. Ivy is a fantastic speed noodle who’s legs definitely move faster than her brain, she loves to do…Read moreSuccess Story: Ivy

Success Story: Kermie and Olive

I was a little apprehensive about meeting Kermit (now Kermie) after losing my 14yr old Maltese X only four months prior. But the connection was instant and when I crouched down to say hello Kermie rested his head on my shoulder and that was it. He was ours. My partner was working FIFO so didn’t meet Kermie until three weeks later. By that stage Kermie and I had such a bond, it was a challenge for Geoff and Kermie to make a connection. After some help from GAWA’s behaviourist things got a bit easier. Kermie was super chilled and slept…Read moreSuccess Story: Kermie and Olive

Success Story: Finnegan

Finnegan came to us for a trial when my baby boy, Sonny, was 9 months old. Greyhound Adoptions WA carefully selected Finnegan for us based on the fact he’d been living with a family with children. Why adopt when I had a young baby? I have never been without a dog, even as a young child, and we had suddenly lost our beautiful greyhound, Lucy some months before (who we also adopted from GAWA). I could tell immediately how sweet and precious Finnegan was. The day we met him, he stood over and saved a little bird in our garden.…Read moreSuccess Story: Finnegan
