Success Story: Rocket

Rocket was rescued by Greyhound Adoptions WA from Victoria at only 2-years-old. He arrived filthy, hungry but happy, still with puppy fuzz! Though Rocket loved like an angel from the start inside our home, outside he was scared and reactive. Our beautiful old hound helped him settle with the help of the Greyhound Adoptions WA behaviourist. He soothed our hearts when we lost our old hound and he was a bit lost without her. Over the last three years, Rocket has continued to settle and is loved and cherished by the whole family. He still isn’t fond of getting too…Read moreSuccess Story: Rocket

Success Story: Grace

Six years ago today we received the most beautiful gift – our Princess Grace. After a call from Toni at Greyhound Adoptions WA, I collected a frightened little eight month old greyhound cross from the kennels. Underweight and scared of the world, she needed somewhere safe and loving. Gracie has bravely navigated the past six years and learnt to trust humans again. There were many tough years where Grace’s anxiety showed as fear reactivity towards people and on many occasions, Grace was labelled as aggressive. Grace has taught us so much about facing adversity, she has healed our hearts and…Read moreSuccess Story: Grace

Success Story: Twirl

We just wanted to say thank you to Greyhound Adoptions WA for our beautiful boy, Twirl He is extremely happy in his new home with us, as are we. Twirl absolutely loves his little fluffy sister, Millie. He is very gentle, even when she is being a cranky old lady and wants to be left alone. We have found Twirl has an obsession with ring chew toys, he enjoys throwing them around for himself and even sleeps with them! His other favourite thing to do is play fetch and go crazy for the ball. A huge thank you to Melanie…Read moreSuccess Story: Twirl

Success Story: Patches and Maddy

A couple of years ago, we were invited to dinner at our friend, Sam’s first floor apartment. We got there and were greeted at the door by Sam and a huge black greyhound. Our first reaction was “are you mad, why would you want a big dog like that in a small upstairs apartment?”. I have to say it took no time at all to fall madly in love with Sam’s greyhound, Peking. Move forward a while and there was a Pets at the Park event at the park near our home with Greyhound Adoptions WA in attendance. I just…Read moreSuccess Story: Patches and Maddy

Success Story: Honey

We have adopted three greybabies from Greyhound Adoptions WA over the years. We lost our boys too soon but currently have 10-year-old Honey with us. Honey is my shadow and a real princess. She has a bed or two in every room of the house. She has some funny quirks including carrying around her hoomum’s travel pillows. Honey has enriched our lives in so many ways. We love our quirky golden girl. We’re even taking her on a dog friendly holiday in a few weeks!  A huge thank you to Cat for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.

Success Story: Belle

After adopting Soda and Poppy, we wanted to have a break from fostering. This lasted all of a few months until we saw Greyhound Adoptions WA’s desperate call-out for foster carers. On the drive home from work, I begged my husband to open our home to a foster. The very next day, Belle was dropped to our home. As soon as she jumped out of the car, she leaped and nuzzled her head deep into my chest and just stayed there for a few minutes. From the very beginning, she was a very emotional girl. It took some adjusting for…Read moreSuccess Story: Belle

Success Story: Ritchie

Richie or “Joy Boy” as he’s affectionately become known, is a success story. Richie was racing until 6 and a half! He was then re-homed at 7 and a half, and discarded again when 8 and a half. That was when he was taken under Toni at Greyhound Adoptions WA’s angel wing. He’s the biggest and bestest character who just loves life. Though he turns 10 next Wednesday, no one has seemed to have told him that! I am pretty sure he was also a super model in his former life because he loves the camera and the camera loves…Read moreSuccess Story: Ritchie

Success Story: Hope

Hope AKA Little Ms Hope, Hopey-skin and Pickle. Where do we begin? It seems like yesterday that Ellen arranged for us to meet Hope and foster carer, Aaron, at Victoria Park Markets. It was there we met this slightly reserved, little girl – and she is little – a pocket greyhound! We went for a walk around the park away from the crowd where she was much happier, taking us everywhere. It was then we decided she was ‘the one’. Upon bringing her home, she claimed the couch and our bed pretty much immediately, seeming to say, ‘yep, I’m home’.…Read moreSuccess Story: Hope

Success Story: Nugget

Our little golden Nugget has brought so much love into our lives, but more importantly she now feels and understands what love is. Nugget came to us as frightened little foster who cowered when we excitedly asked her if she wanted to go for a walk, would lung for home if we came across something unknown on a walk and would pace the fence when guests came into our house. Nugget was so frightened of the outside world and cautious of everyone in it. With time, love, encouragement and having the best older brother in O.J to show her the…Read moreSuccess Story: Nugget

Success Story: Beau

Buckle up, it’s a long one! I’ve always wanted to adopt a Greyhound, & we were finally ready once I moved into my partner’s house. Having grown up around dogs, Owen & I are both reasonably dog savvy. We went into the adoption process with the thought of getting a dog who needed a good home. Those were the ones who needed our love the most. I first saw Beau on Facebook post & was immediately captured by his colouring & how handsome he is! We read about his story & thought ‘this could be the dog for us’. We…Read moreSuccess Story: Beau
