Evie

In November a little black bundle of stubbornness and mischief called Evie entered my life. She’s been a great match for me being slightly stubborn and mischievous myself. I was fortunate that Evie had been looked after by a lovely foster family who have been so helpful to a novice Greyhound owner. I’ve found that Evie’s preferred sleeping location, for 23 hours a day, is any piece of carpet not covered by a rug and that she has more changes of sleeping locations in a day than Bridgerton cast have costume changes in a season. And then there’s the 1…Read moreEvie

Rodney

I adopted Rodney (previously known as Figs) back in October 2022. He had fur missing from his thighs and looked a bit on the thin side, however he was soon putting on weight and within 6 months was up to his current weight of 35kg. Rodney settled in within the first week or so. He enjoys his food, laying on his many inside and outside beds, tearing up the lawn with a quick zooomie and then laying down in the sandy areas, or making his own mini excavation site..! Walk time is a happy one although Rodney prefers to not…Read moreRodney

Success Story: Ginger, pound break girl

I adopted Ginger in August after saying farewell to my precious Maddie. Ginger was found abandoned and sent to Mandurah Pound. Unclaimed, GAWA rescued her, and she began her new life with her foster caregivers, Kim and Billie. They gave her a wonderful start to home life with foster boy Kai until she came to live with me. Ginger made herself right at home! Being underweight and with weak rear legs due to little muscle did not stop her from zoomies. She has continued to grow and build muscle, and she is definitely now stronger. Ginger loves her food (and…Read moreSuccess Story: Ginger, pound break girl

Success Story: Simo

Simo came to me unexpectedly about 18 mths ago as an 11yr old, he urgently needed to be in a different environment. He was recovering from some injuries and ended up having surgery soon after coming to me. He bounced back like the trooper he is! Once he recovered, and settled down I knew this old boy had earned a place in my family. He got on well with the other greys in the house and is full of love. Simo loves to roach! And is often found on my bed or a couch, stretching to the sky! His mind…Read moreSuccess Story: Simo

Success Story: Penny

I signed up to foster, with the hope that whichever dog we had would find their perfect home. When Penny arrived, she was very nervous, but took a liking to my husband. We woke up to her snuggled up in the middle of the bed, as close to my husband as she could possibly get. We took Penny to one of the adoption events, and couldn’t bear to put the “adopt me” vest on her – so adopted her after 11 days! For quite a while she was nervous around other people, and would flinch whenever someone tried to touch…Read moreSuccess Story: Penny

Success Story: Quartz

Quartz came to me unexpectedly 3 years ago as a 10yr old, and I initially said no to fostering her, as I thought I wouldn’t be able to care for her properly. As soon as she walked in the door I knew it was going to be a foster fail! She was extremely stressed and very shy but soon settled in and knew she was in a safe and loving home. Quartz loves her own company but has also been extremely accepting of other greys that have come into our house. We have helped each other out of our respective shells and…Read moreSuccess Story: Quartz

Success Story: Genie

“Genie came into our life 6 months ago today. Here’s an update on how she is going. She still: * Loves to dig * Creates huge furrows in the garden as she zooms along the track she’s made in our yard * Takes all her soft toys outside to get wet and dirty. Many are found buried in her digging area. * Prefers her own bed to cuddles on the lounge * Seeks 2 long walks each day * Waits to be lifted into the car She’s made friends (human and dog) around the neighbourhood who she enjoys meeting on…Read moreSuccess Story: Genie

Success Story: Akali and Curly

“Akali (right) and Curly (left) were adopted in late 2022, three weeks apart. Although they didn’t know each other before we adopted them, they quickly became the best of friends. As they say, opposites attract! The year 2023 began with the devastating news that my father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. After a difficult and brief battle, he passed away peacefully in July. In his absence, I had to adjust to a new reality and learn to cope with a rollercoaster of emotions. It was during these dark times that Akali’s and Curly’s true purpose became clear. Taking care…Read moreSuccess Story: Akali and Curly

Success Story: Rose

“I had always wanted a second dog that would pair nicely with our 4-year-old Mabel, a Jack Russell with LOTS of energy. After quite a bit of research, it looked like a greyhound might be good option as they would have enough energy (and speed) to run around with Mabel but were also relaxed enough that it would calm her down a bit. I’d been following Greyhound Adoptions WA online for a while and had seen the need for more foster carers. After several chats with my husband, we decided that fostering could be a good option for us. Then…Read moreSuccess Story: Rose

Success Story: Baxter

We brought our soulmate and best boy Baxter home on Halloween in 2016, completely unaware that he would become the centre of our universe. He has been the perfect companion for over 7 years and brought so much joy to our lives. Bax is incredibly chilled, goofy, loving, sassy, and has the most kissable snoot- He has it all! Adopting Bax was the best decision we ever made, we are so grateful to GAWA for everything they do for these amazing dogs.  A huge thank you to Kate for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.
