Success Story: Sid

We adopted Sid in January 2023 and couldn’t have wished for a better dog! Each morning if I’ve forgotten to set my alarm, he comes into my room (at usual alarm time) and wakes me up. He then waits for our daughter to wake up, cue teeth chatters the minute her room door opens, followed by cuddles in the hallway. He then enjoys brekky in the backyard followed by a morning walk to the park. We all head off to work and school and Sid snoozes the day away. We arrive home and he enthusiastically waits behind the front door,…Read moreSuccess Story: Sid

Success Story: Rex and Betty

Rex has been with our family for almost 9 years now! He is the most patient old boy, who is amazing with our young kids. Rex mostly spends his days now sleeping outside in the sunshine, but even at almost 11 years old he still has his daily outburst of zoomies. Just a lot slower than they used to be! His favourite time of the day is dinner, which makes us laugh every time watching his little dancey dance when he can see his dinner about to be given to him! As Rex is starting to get old we decided…Read moreSuccess Story: Rex and Betty

Success Story: Archie

My husband and I decided we wanted to get a greyhound when we finally found a rental that allowed dogs. I wanted a big dog, but we both wanted one that would be happy in a smaller home, as we were living in a townhouse at the time. He had a good friend who had a pet greyhound and she was delightful, gentle, quit, calm and happily living in a Melbourne inner-city apartment! I took a bit of convincing as my only exposure to greyhounds had been on TV seeing them running, muzzled in races. But he assured me they…Read moreSuccess Story: Archie

Success Story: Poppy

Poppy was our 10th foster girl and arrived to us after a long drive from Darwin. She was smelly, dirty, but excited about her new home and an assortment of beds to choose from. Our usual tradition of ordering pizza the first night we have a foster dog didn’t happen, it was like an omen to let us know Poppy wasn’t just a foster – but will become a permanent part of our family. Poppy has been in our lives for 3 and a half years now and we cannot imagine life without her. She is extremely independent, the boss…Read moreSuccess Story: Poppy

Success Story: Miso

Hi! I’m Miso, formerly known as Ivy. I’ve been living my best life with my adoptive parents for 4 months now and I have to say, I am loving being the centre of their world! I enjoy following them around and standing in their way if they try to do anything that doesn’t involve me (we are a family now after all!). One of my favorite things to do is snootavise meal preparation times, you just never know when something might fall on the floor requiring a prompt clean up by me. When I realize there is food in my…Read moreSuccess Story: Miso

Success Story: Brynn

Brinny came to us in 2020 as a foster. When I picked her up from Larkhill Vets, she was very timid and shut down. At first, Brinny refused to leave her bed for any reason, doing all her business and eating on a 1mx1m bed. After a few days, she gradually followed my boy Samson around and started to interact. Slowly but surely, she came out of her shell and started playing with Sammy and nagging us for pats. I realised I couldn’t let her go. She is now named Brynn – we are so glad we adopted her and…Read moreSuccess Story: Brynn

Success Story: Rocket

Rocket was rescued by Greyhound Adoptions WA from Victoria at only 2-years-old. He arrived filthy, hungry but happy, still with puppy fuzz! Though Rocket loved like an angel from the start inside our home, outside he was scared and reactive. Our beautiful old hound helped him settle with the help of the Greyhound Adoptions WA behaviourist. He soothed our hearts when we lost our old hound and he was a bit lost without her. Over the last three years, Rocket has continued to settle and is loved and cherished by the whole family. He still isn’t fond of getting too…Read moreSuccess Story: Rocket

Success Story: Grace

Six years ago today we received the most beautiful gift – our Princess Grace. After a call from Toni at Greyhound Adoptions WA, I collected a frightened little eight month old greyhound cross from the kennels. Underweight and scared of the world, she needed somewhere safe and loving. Gracie has bravely navigated the past six years and learnt to trust humans again. There were many tough years where Grace’s anxiety showed as fear reactivity towards people and on many occasions, Grace was labelled as aggressive. Grace has taught us so much about facing adversity, she has healed our hearts and…Read moreSuccess Story: Grace

Success Story: Twirl

We just wanted to say thank you to Greyhound Adoptions WA for our beautiful boy, Twirl He is extremely happy in his new home with us, as are we. Twirl absolutely loves his little fluffy sister, Millie. He is very gentle, even when she is being a cranky old lady and wants to be left alone. We have found Twirl has an obsession with ring chew toys, he enjoys throwing them around for himself and even sleeps with them! His other favourite thing to do is play fetch and go crazy for the ball. A huge thank you to Melanie…Read moreSuccess Story: Twirl

Success Story: Patches and Maddy

A couple of years ago, we were invited to dinner at our friend, Sam’s first floor apartment. We got there and were greeted at the door by Sam and a huge black greyhound. Our first reaction was “are you mad, why would you want a big dog like that in a small upstairs apartment?”. I have to say it took no time at all to fall madly in love with Sam’s greyhound, Peking. Move forward a while and there was a Pets at the Park event at the park near our home with Greyhound Adoptions WA in attendance. I just…Read moreSuccess Story: Patches and Maddy
