Success Story: Lulu

We adopted Lulu last April and she is an adorable dog – everyone loves her! She has learned to play ball and races around with our other dog in competitive games with him. She knows the word “treat” and sometimes we think she can understand English! Thank you to Greyhound Adoptions WA for changing the lives of our family with the addition of Lulu. She brings so much joy to every interaction   A huge thank you to Hunter for sharing your “Success Story” with Greyhound Adoptions WA.

Success Story: Xena

Xena came into our home as an emergency foster after her previous owner was unable to look after her. Xena needed extensive dental work which included 13 teeth being removed and also surgery to remove a few fatty lumps. At 12 years old it was risky, but the only way she could live a pain-free healthy life. Greyhound Adoptions WA paid for all of Xena’s vet bills and aftercare, and as her foster parents, we supplied the warm bed, cuddles and occasional chicken nuggets during recovery. After recovery and now free from dental pain, Xena started to come out of…Read moreSuccess Story: Xena

Success Story: Shirley and Walt

We are so lucky to have two beautiful hounds from Greyhound Adoptions WA. In 2017 we returned to Perth from living over east and travelling. We desperately wanted to foster a dog but were renting a small inner-city apartment so we weren’t sure if we could. I used to walk dogs at the RSPCA and absolutely loved walking any greyhounds who found themselves at the shelter as they were always so calm and loving. I especially loved how they’d lean up against me. I had heard they could make good apartment dogs so I enquired with Greyhound Adoptions WA about…Read moreSuccess Story: Shirley and Walt

Success Story: Ben

After living in our new house for a few years, we were missing the love of a dog. We wanted to adopt a dog, so we did some research and greyhounds seemed to match our lifestyle perfectly. After following Greyhound Adoptions WA (GAWA) on Facebook we fell completely in love with greyhounds and soon signed up to foster. Our foster Ben came to us at the start of 2019, before the word COVID had entered the world’s vocabulary. Ben was as a shy boy that was scared to get out of the car and come inside our house! After a…Read moreSuccess Story: Ben

Success Story: Rex

When my partner and I first moved out of share houses and into our own rental my first demand, I mean, our first decision was to adopt a dog. I had always grown up with dogs in my house and all our previous housemates had dogs. A dog is what makes a home and I loved coming home to a dog so happy to see me. It was just what dog… I knew I wanted a rescue, but gosh it was tough deciding which one. One day I saw a virally video of chattering greyhound and we were sold! We…Read moreSuccess Story: Rex

Success Story: Beth

After having Winnie for a year or so, we along with most others who adopt greyhounds, decided we wanted to get more involved in helping them out. It didn’t take long after getting in contact with GAWA for us to find our first foster, it was a close call with Jeremy, and we almost kept him. Although we couldn’t give up the idea of fostering just yet. And then along came Beth, she came in small, but that was only in stature. She waltzed into the house, said hello to Winnie and then proceeded to roach on the couch for…Read moreSuccess Story: Beth

Success Story: Al

I’ve always had a soft spot for noodley dogs, especially after my parents accidentally adopted a greyhound cross a few years ago. Finally at the end of 2022, my partner and I were in a position to consider adopting a noodle of our own. We contacted GAWA and got the ball rolling. Enter Al: From the moment we met him, we were enamoured by his affection and goofiness and instantly knew we were meant to find each other. Our feelings were consolidated when during the same meeting, we watched him fall off his bed and then proceed to act like…Read moreSuccess Story: Al

Success Story: Soda

My husband and I have always loved greyhounds, and after buying our first home in 2016 we decided it was the right time to add to our family. The moment I met Soda, I knew it was just a no-brainer that I was going to adopt him, it was instant love. A few weeks later, we were driving our forever boy home. I sat in the backseat with him whilst my husband drove us home. I remember blaming the fart smell on my husband, but it turns out it was Soda who had the toots! Soda adjusted to pet life…Read moreSuccess Story: Soda

Success Story: Hermes

We missed having a dog so much. We were looking into rescuing one. After some research, we decided on rescuing a greyhound due to their placid personality. We called GAWA who were very helpful and informative about greyhounds.  GAWA invited us to an adoption event to meet this big boy whom they thought would be a perfect match for us.  It was truly love at first sight when he entered Petstock Rockingham. He locked his big eyes with mine, came towards me and in a few minutes he was leaning against me as if hugging me. Immediately I knew we…Read moreSuccess Story: Hermes

Success Story: Peking

I adopted Peking in 2019 shortly after purchasing my first home. Having always grown up with a dog, I believed a house is not a home without a dog. One day when scrolling across Facebook, GAWA’s ‘dog of the month’ popped up – it was Peking. I met her shortly after at her wonderful foster carer, Kira’s home. When Peking wandered out wearing a tiny sombrero and jumped up at me, it was love at first sight. I always say she’s the true love of my life, much to my partners dismay! Peking came to live with me a week…Read moreSuccess Story: Peking
